Welcome to the world of ScottyScapes – I’m an artist living in Wantage, Oxfordshire, England where I’ve been for the last 25 years. I’m originally from Falkirk in Scotland where I spent the first 20 years growing up.
Many artists from the past have influenced my artwork. They include Van Gogh for his expressive swirling brushstrokes, Peploe – a Scottish Colourist for his still life paintings, and Escher for his sometimes impossible prints and mark-making. One particular artist and painting which has made the biggest impact on me because of the angle it is painted from, is ‘Christ of St John of the Cross’ by Salvador Dali which resides in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow. As you look at the painting you are placed looking straight down on Christ’s head and body as if you are an angel looking down from heaven. Never before has a painting felt so magical.
Since lockdown I’ve been on a voyage of discovery with my art, after having a break from drawing and painting to raise a family. I’ve chosen to enter the realm of digital art as it means I don’t have any mess to clear up after each session.
